Monemvasia

After an interesting drive across the mountain roads we arrived at Monemvasia, originally the port of Mystras, a fortified double town clinging to a limestone plug rising 350 metres from the sea. The poet Giannis Ritsos 1909-1990 and is buried in the cemetery just outside the walls. Steep cobbled and narrow streets full of charm and history, many hotels with quite a price tag, non of this can be seen from the modern village below. A quiet night with 7 others on the harbour.
