Travel to Spain 2022

A long day, but a good drive to our overnight stop at Chartres, France. Thanks to M&MgoToEurope we negotiated the detour round Rouen due to road works which are likely to go on until late 2023! Shopping in the village of Marquis at Intermarche not far from Calais with diesel at euro 1.795 per litre equals £1.54 today!! We’ve lost an hour, so we are settling down for an early night!

Châteauroux, on the banks of the Indre river, It boasts a wealth of places of interest including Saint-Martin gate, a vestige of ancient fortifications; pretty medieval streets (Rue de l'Indre, Rue de la Vieille Prison and Rue Grande); a 13th-century former convent, the Couvent des Cordeliers, the elegant Château Raoul; and the Neo-Romanesque Notre-Dame church whose dome is topped by a gilt bronze statue of the Virgin. Plus it’s twinned with Gutersloh our old RAF home! A quiet free aire with services, surrounded by parkland a fantastic find.

A tale of 2 halves! Yesterday morning we walked from the fantastic aire at Chateauroux to the village of Deols. Our intention the visit the ruined Abbey and museum, of course the museum attendant had just slipped out, so no visit, but the Abbey and village were amazing, the town we just putting together their Christmas decorations ready for a parade this weekend.

We then drove to see my childhood friend and husband at Saint Anne Priest near Limoges, it was February 2020 when we last saw, just before Covid 19! We had a wonderful overnight stop with them, so many laughs and memories to share.

Carcassonne, a hilltop town in southern France’s Languedoc area, is famous for its medieval citadel, La Cité, with numerous watchtowers and double-walled fortifications. The first walls were built in Gallo-Roman times, with major additions made in the 13th and 14th centuries. Château Comtal, a 12th-century castle within the Cité, offers archaeological exhibits and a tour of the inner ramparts.

We’ve reached Spain! With a stop is Palamos, it’s cloudy but 14 degrees. Had a nice walk along the sea front reminiscing about the times we used to bring our children here!

A wet drive all day yesterday so travelled further south than planned. Discovered friends we met 3 years ago at Nule so we joined them. It’s a small friendly campsite with a pebble beach which we walked along to another village, but as it was Sunday nothing open. Spent a lovely evening with Maxine & Martin and wish them a safe journey home!

A lovely afternoon sightseeing, 20c but grey felt quite oppressive after all the freezing temperatures. Of course we hit the old town at siesta, but toured the castle and later the marina.

Arrived! Yesterday we reached our home for 31 nights, 21c but very cloudy. We stopped off in Calp on our final run but only John went exploring whilst I slept due to vertigo! A very busy camper stop!! Filled up with diesel before we arrived with a €0.20 rebate £1.16 a Ltr.
