Weston - Exmouth

Weston Super mare.

Our first night stop of our 60 night tour. Here for 2 nights, catching up with friends and a bit of exploring.

The weather wads not too good but managed a walk along the through the woods towards Weston.

Exmouth

After a short journey down we arrived at the CCC Temporary Holiday Site here in Exmouth, our home for the next 14 nights. It’s sunny with a sneaky wind! A walk along the prom, lots of students on the beach, we think from Exeter uni. Coffee near the RNLI. Seems strange to think 12 months have passed since we were here.

Whimple

2 hr bus trip to Whimple to see the heritage centre. It all started with a mug with a picture on it! Today we visited Whimple, a bit of a mission by public transport but we’ve had a great day if exhausted! Jean inherited the mug, think it has come via her dad’s family, been chasing Mary Rice and Solomon Scadding for years! Lovely village with narrow roads, a local pub, nice lunch, a fantastic volunteer run Heritage Centre and I felt at home!

Topsham

This morning we took the bus to lovely Topsham, then we joined the Exe Estuary trial and walked back to Exmouth! We had sunshine and a bit of cloud now and then. We stopped off in Lympstone, The Swan for a cuppa, we have walked 7.1 miles today!

Budleigh Salterton

After a couple of quiet days, just meandering and keeping cool by the van, today we took the bus to Budleigh Salterton. Morning cuppa in the local Methodist Church coffee shop and a walk along the promenade. We then headed inland and walked alongside the River Otter to Otterton, watching the birds, fish and Ebony Jewel wing black wing damsel flies, fluttering around. To our left they were busy with the Lower Otter restoration project, the 200 year old sea defences are now starting to fail, the project is to allow the area to flood, making salt marsh and mudflats for wildlife, together with embankments. We then spent some time in Otterton Church and a meander round the village before heading back on the bus to Exmouth, these OAP bus passes are great.

Weston Super Mare
