Pylos and Finikouda

Friday we headed into the hills above Mystras towards Kalamata. The scenery was amazing, we stopped off for a coffee in a small taverna, I’m not sure how much business this guy gets! Once back on the coast having negotiated Kalamata we headed west to Pylos. We did consider staying here overnight, although a nice harbour town we didn’t fancy sitting on a harbour in the heat. We moved down the coast to Finikouda and found a campsite with space. It was a busy area and campsites full, ours with Germans & Austrians. The owner was friendly, facilities great but the beach of shingle had a huge drop off, into the cold sea! Friday night we went out for fish & chips, amazing, cooked to order.

Saturday morning we walked the 10 minutes into the lovely village and harbour. There was a special service and parade going on! Couldn’t find out why, something connected with the village, maybe, celebrating the day the village was liberated?’
